Because there are so many acne remedies available, you should be aware as to what the properties of each one are. Acne remedies commonly come in the form of topical antibiotics. These antibiotics con only be prescribed by your doctor, so by reviewing this information on acne remedies you will be better able to work with your doctor on making an informed decision as to which topical antibiotic is right for you.

If your acne is caused by rosacea, acne remedies for you will typically include a topical antibiotic containing Metronidazole. You would need to apply this gel or solution once or twice per day. It is generally well tolerated as it only contains 0.75% Metronidazole, but it can cause irritation.

For non-rosacea based acne, Clindamycin is the most common of the available acne remedies to be prescribed. Clindamycin is delivered in a range of substances including solutions, lotions and gels. All of these come in a concentration of 1% and is also fairly well tolerated. Acne remedies containing Clindamycin should be applied twice a day to all acne prone areas. Also, acne remedies containing this active ingredient should not be used if you suffer from regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis or are prone to antibiotic-induced colitis.

The second most popular down the list of acne remedies is Erythromycin. Acne remedies of this nature are available as a solution, gel or ointment as 2% strength. This product should be applied twice per day to all acne prone areas. Erythromycin is one of the few acne remedies that is safe for use by pregnant women.

Acne remedies which contain tetracycline, though not typically used as a topical treatment, are another option. This form is available as an ointment or a solution at varying strengths. Acne remedies with tetracycline contain sodium bisulfate, a sulfa derivative and can therefore cause allergic reactions. Another potential side effect of this treatment is yellowing of the skin.

So there you have it. You now know about several different acne remedies and their individual properties. Hopefully now you are more informed on the different acne remedies your doctor might prescribe for you, so you’ll be better able to discuss the possibilities with him.
